How to Clean Every Kind of Floor

Dust, dirt, crumbs, hair, and dead skin particles all fall to the floor without notice, that is until you do notice them. While a good sweeping or vacuuming can pick up what’s on the surface, mopping is critical for providing a thorough cleaning of those areas that require a little more attention.

As a general rule, it’s important to complete a mopping at least once a week.  While Swiffer-type pads combined with sweeping are great for daily housekeeping, after years of experience, the only mopping tool that has proven to get the deep-down cleaning your floor needs is the O-Cedar EasyWring Spin Mop. It’s super easy to use, doesn’t require you to get on your hands and knees, and does a thorough cleaning!

It’s a different world this year than it used to be. Gone are my frantic mall crawling, specialty product hunting, grocery shopping days during the holiday madness.  Now, with the click of my mouse I can hunt for everything I need and want for the holidays, in the comfort of my favorite cozy chair at home – online!

Wood Flooring:

Are your hardwood floors losing their luster? Dirt and grime, especially, can make your hardwood floors look dull. That is why it’s important to maintain your floors by CONSISTENTLY cleaning them with the right products and in the right way.

You already know that we recommend the O-Cedar EasyWring Spin Mop, and part of the reason why is because you can control the level of moisture on your mop with the built-in high-quality foot pedal designed to activate hands-free spin wringing. This is especially important for wood floors because they should NOT be cleaned with a wet mop but rather only with a mop that is lightly damp because too much water could cause the wood to swell and split.

A couple of cleaning solutions we recommend to leave your hardwood flooring looking shiny and brand new is the Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner, and the Murphy Oil Soap Wood Cleaner.

Laminate Flooring:

Just like wood flooring, it is not a good idea to use a lot of water on any type of laminate. As a preventative measure to protect your laminate flooring ensure to put felt pads underneath any furniture legs, and drip trays under your plant pots as they can easily get damaged.

Because laminate floors are easily damaged when you use too much water, the O-Cedar EasyWring Spin Mop is perfect for gentle cleaning. It’s important to never use abrasive cleaners like nylon scouring pads or steel wool, as they can scratch laminate. Another thing to keep in mind when mopping your laminate floors is to ensure that you have a low level of moisture on your mop.

Never use soap-based detergents on laminate or wax-based cleaning products as they can leave a film on the floor and make it slippery. Instead, to remove marks and stains, we recommend using a dilute solution of water and vinegar. And for those heavier stains, try the Bona Hard Surface Floor Cleaner.

Tile Flooring:

Tile flooring is by far one of the easiest floors to clean. They need minimal maintenance (which is nice for those of you who have busy schedules) just a weekly sweep and quick mop.

When cleaning with your O-Cedar EasyWring Spin Mop make sure your mop head is still damp with the water being as hot as you can make it. The hotter the water the deeper the clean. Make your house cleaning easy by allowing the heat to do most of the heavy lifting for you.

When mopping your tile, never use wax polish as it can make your floor slippery. For tile flooring, we recommend using Bona Hard Surface Floor Cleaner, or Black Diamond’s Marble and Tile Concentrated Cleaner.

Of course, we’ve saved the best kept floor cleaning secret for last… Booking a Deep Cleaning Appointment with One Organized Mom and have our professional house cleaners come in and pay special attention to your entire home, including your floors.  You won’t believe how great it feels to have someone else do all of the work AND to invest in keeping your home looking great year-round.
