In order to have the best, streak-free results, you will want to spray and then let it sit for a few seconds and then wipe in a back and forth motion using a microfiber cloth. Remember to always start at the top and work your way to the bottom. This is one of the best ways to prevent streaking. Never use a circular motion when cleaning your glass and mirrors – after all, you are cleaning glass, not buffing a car!

If you have some stuck-on debris, use a dab of rubbing alcohol and rub it in a circular motion to remove the stuck on gunk. Then finish it by wiping it down with your cleaning solution and microfiber cloth.

Myth Busting

People are constantly asking us how we here at One Organized Mom clean glass and mirrors and what works and what doesn’t. We also get a few questions about how windows get so dirty and people often offer their best ideas of the best way to bring out the shine in glass and mirrors. We thought to finish off this blog, we would offer our knowledge on a couple of the more common myths and misconceptions.

  1. Newspaper is the best way to clean glass and mirrors – The main drawbacks of cleaning your windows with newspaper are that it will begin to fall to pieces when wet, and the ink can rub off on surrounding woodwork, aluminum, and brick – making these surfaces appear dirtier than when you started.
  2. Rain Makes Windows Dirty – This one has been around for years and is totally ridiculous! Rainwater tends to splash on window glass – moving around the dirt, pollen, dust, and grime that has been building up, and making this far more noticeable. But the rain didn’t make the window dirty – the dirt, sadly, was already there!
  3. Don’t Wash Your Windows on a Hot Day – This one is actually true to some extent. On a hot, sunny day your windows will heat up and cause instant evaporation of water and cleaning materials. This results in streaks and marks on the window that could look pretty bad.
